A fresh twist to the lingering internal crisis within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River State, the Vice Chairman of Ogoja Local Government Council, Hon. Emmanuel Idi Yakubu, has formally resigned his membership of the ruling party.
In a resignation letter dated December 31, 2025, and addressed to the Ward Chairman of Ogoja Urban Ward II, Yakubu revealed that he had previously attempted to resign from the APC in June 2025, but his decision was rejected by the then State Chairman, Barr. Alphonsus Ogar Eba.
“You may recall that in my letter dated June 24, 2025, I had attempted to resign from the party, but my resignation was rejected by the State Chairman, Barr. Alphonsus Ogar Eba,” the letter reads.
Yakubu expressed appreciation for his time in the party, noting that he “enjoyed my stay in the APC under your all inclusive leadership” and wished the ward chairman and his “brothers” well as they continue to steer the party’s affairs.
The development comes just weeks after the controversial impeachment of Barr. Eba as Cross River APC State Chairman on December 4, 2025, over allegations of financial misconduct and high-handedness – a move Eba has challenged in court.
Yakubu, who was elected on the APC platform alongside Council Chairman Chris Agbeh, had in his earlier June resignation cited sustained marginalisation, ill-treatment of supporters, and a breakdown in council leadership. Despite withdrawing that attempt at the time, today’s letter signals a definitive exit.
Sources close to the Ogoja council indicate that Yakubu remains in office as Vice Chairman for now, but his departure from the APC could spark further realignments at the local level ahead of future elections.
