Governor Bassey Otu Appoints New Leadership for Cross River Local Government Service Commission

The Governor of Cross River State, His Excellency Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, has approved the appointment of new leadership for the Local Government Service Commission in a move aimed at strengthening grassroots governance and ensuring the viability of the local government system.

In a press release dated March 9, 2026, signed by Prof. A. Owen Enoh, Secretary to the State Government, the Governor appointed the following individuals:

Barr. Eyo Nsa Ekpo — Chairman

Dr. Ekeng Effiong Edet — Commissioner I

Emmanuel Itakui Nuyan — Commissioner II

Dr. Godwin Ondale Akpor — Commissioner III

Hon. Obia Lawrence Bassey — Commissioner IV

Hon. Rita Ayim — Commissioner V

Hon. John Olom Otu — Commissioner VI

The appointments take immediate effect, with the Governor emphasizing his commitment to the ethos of constitutional provisions and the overall sustainability of local governance in the state.

This development comes after previous challenges in the Commission, including a prior resignation and suspension of recruitment processes due to alleged irregularities under the former leadership. The new team is expected to bring renewed focus on merit, efficiency, and service delivery at the local level.

Congratulations to the new Chairman and Commissioners! This step underscores the administration’s dedication to reforming and repositioning local government institutions for better impact on the people of Cross River State.
