The All Progressives Congress (APC) says its platform is
ready to fly Umo Eno, the governor of Akwa Ibom, out of the Peoples Democratic
Party (PDP).
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Felix Morka, the
national publicity secretary of APC, was responding to comments made by Eno
likening the PDP to a faulty aircraft.
Speaking recently in Akwa Ibom, Eno said the PDP plane “can
no longer fly safely” and hinted at the need to explore alternative options.
In response, the APC spokesperson said the ruling party
welcomes the governor’s remarks and agrees with his assessment of the PDP.
“We couldn’t agree more that Plane PDP has become
demonstrably inoperable and unsafe for travel,” the statement reads.
“As safety and comfort are prerequisite conditions for
flying, our great party assures the governor that Plane APC is fit and ready to
fly His Excellency and entourage to their desired destination.
“Our pilots and crew are highly competent, welcoming,
attentive to detail, and on standby to serve.
“We assure Governor Eno that a flight with us will be a
mighty good ride to remember.”
On Monday, the national working committee (NWC) of the PDP
held an emergency meeting over the wave of defections that has rattled the
party in recent weeks.
After the meeting, Umar Damagun, acting national chairman of
the PDP, said the party’s national legal adviser has been directed to take
action over the defection of Sheriff Oborevwori, Delta state governor, and
other members to the APC.
