In a decisive display of support, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged as the leading party in the Cross River State local government elections, securing the majority of votes across all 18 local government areas. The results, released by the Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission (CROSIEC), show a significant margin between the APC and opposition parties in most LGAs.
In the northern region, Obudu Local Government Area recorded one of the highest numbers of APC votes, with 112,654, far outpacing the Labour Party (LP) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), which garnered 4,747 and 2,585 votes respectively. Bekwarra and Yala LGAs also reflected strong support for the APC, with 31,521 votes in Bekwarra and an impressive 93,462 votes in Yala.
In the southern and central parts of the state, the APC maintained its lead. Akamkpa recorded a commanding 53,882 votes for APC compared to PDP’s 1,679. Calabar South and Calabar Municipality also saw substantial APC leads, with the ruling party receiving 46,525 and 38,354 votes, respectively, while PDP trailed with 3,611 in Calabar South and 3,413 in Calabar Municipality.
Yakurr LGA recorded 74,971 votes for APC, further solidifying the party’s influence in the central part of the state. In Odukpani, the APC secured 41,368 votes, while PDP trailed with 1,110.
The results indicate a decisive victory for the APC across the state, with other parties including the PDP, LP, APP, SDP, and YPP falling short in each LGA. Labour Party made its strongest showing in Yala, receiving 10,761 votes but still far behind the APC’s margin.
