Barr. Alphonsus Ogar Eba, Esq., JP, the former Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River State, has withdrawn all ongoing legal actions against the party’s national leadership and relinquished his position, citing a desire to promote peace and avoid past factional disputes.
The announcement, made via a detailed post on Eba’s Facebook page on January 19, 2026, marks the end of a month-long legal battle initiated after his removal from office. Eba, a lawyer and key figure in Cross River politics, shared images of legal documents and his revalidated APC membership slip alongside the statement.
In his post, Eba referenced Ecclesiastes 7:8, stating, “Better the end of a thing than the beginning.” He explained that after trusting God for direction and heeding counsel from leaders, true friends, and family members, he decided to uphold the party’s mantra of “Peace, Love, Unity and Growth.” He expressed concerns about repeating the 2019 scenario, where similar disagreements eroded the legal validity and legitimacy of the party’s candidates.
Eba reflected on his four-year tenure, noting, “It is gratifying that God saw me through my four years tenure to the end in peace.” Quoting 2 Timothy 4:7, he added, “I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith.” He described his 15-year political career as a “worthy political battle” that elevated him from the perigee to the apogee, affirming that “what awaits me now is a crown of glory” and that divine grace would guide him further.
Confirming the withdrawal of all court processes and interim orders in his favor, Eba stated he abides by the National Executive Committee’s (NEC) decision on December 19, 2025, which nullified the State Executive Committee of October 16, 2021, that installed him as chairman. “Henceforth, I cease to be called APC Chairman of Cross River State,” he declared.
Despite stepping aside, Eba affirmed his ongoing commitment to the APC, having revalidated his membership. The shared membership slip lists his details from Cross River State, Yala Local Government Area, Echumofana Ward, with a registration date of January 15, 2020, and ID APC090810002007. He urged current and prospective members to revalidate or register accordingly.
Eba announced a shift from “Political Evangelism to Economic Evangelism,” returning to his full legal practice, farm business, and other ventures. He plans to focus more on revitalizing the natural rubber sub-sector as Chairman of the Governing Board of the Rubber Research Institute Benin.
Pledging loyalty to President H.E. Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, and Governor H.E. Sen. Prince Bassey Edet Otu, Eba thanked supporters for their contributions to his administration and requested they extend similar backing to his successors.
The accompanying documents include a Notice of Discontinuance dated January 16, 2026, for Suit No: CV/5197/25 in the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja Judicial Division. It withdraws the claim against defendants: the APC, Mr. Ekum Ekok Ojogu, Mr. Patrick Asikpo Okon, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
