Governor Bassey Edet Otu of Cross River State has officially inaugurated 18 newly elected local government chairmen and their deputies, urging them to prioritize transparency, accountability, and a commitment to the people.
The inauguration ceremony, held on November 2 at the Governor’s temporary office at Dan Archibong Lodge, Calabar, followed the recent All Progressives Congress (APC) victory in the local government elections. Addressing the new leaders, Governor Otu emphasized that their roles carry significant responsibilities, urging them to approach their work with a “People First” philosophy.
“Your election is more than a victory; it is a mandate to serve and uphold the trust of the people of Cross River,” Governor Otu stated. “Our goal is to strengthen the state’s economy, attract investments, and improve quality of life across our communities. This office is not symbolic; it is an obligation.”
Governor Otu outlined critical priorities for the chairmen, including community development, infrastructure improvement, and effective public service delivery. He stressed the importance of fulfilling their constitutional duties to foster growth and development at the grassroots level, reiterating his administration’s commitment to building a prosperous Cross River through dedicated and transparent governance.
